2 charged in DEA sting operation are extradited (AP)
NEW YORK ? Two men arrested in Romania in a drug probe aimed at cutting off potential terrorism funds have been brought to New York for trial.
Siavosh Henareh (SEE'-uh-vahsh HEHN'-er-uh) and Cetin Aksu (SEE'-tahn AK'-soo) pleaded not guilty Thursday in their first appearances before a federal judge in Manhattan. Both were arrested in Bucharest, Romania, on July 25.
Henareh, a 57-year-old Iranian citizen, was charged with conspiracy to distribute heroin. Aksu, a 49-year-old citizen of Turkey, was charged with drug conspiracy and conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. Authorities say he sought to acquire anti-aircraft missiles to deliver to Hezbollah.
Both men were held without bail. If convicted, they face the potential of life in prison.
