British police charge suspected LulzSec hackers

British police on Tuesday charged two males on suspicion of hacking for online group LulzSec, hours after US authorities charged one of the men with involvement in a wave of high-profile cyberattacks.

Ryan Mark Ackroyd, aged 25 according to British police, and an unnamed 17-year-old male were charged with two counts of computer hacking conspiracy, according to a Scotland Yard statement.

Ackroyd will appear at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court on March 16 while the 17-year-old will appear at West London Youth Court on March 13.

Indictments unsealed by the US District Court for the Southern District of New York earlier on Tuesday revealed that Ackroyd, of Doncaster in northern England, had also been charged by US authorities with two counts of computer hacking conspiracy.

British police have now charged four people over their links to the "hacktivist" group with Ryan Cleary, 19, and Jake Davis, aged 18 according to British police, both being charged last year.

Davis was also among the five suspected hackers charged in the United States, where the crime carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for each count.

Charges filed in the US note Davis as being aged 29 and Ackroyd 23.

A British police spokesman confirmed the charges were "completely separate" from the US prosecutions.
