NASA?s Solar Fleet Sees Massive Filament Erupt on Sun

A long filament erupted on the sun on August 31, 2012, shown here in a movie captured by NASA?s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) from noon EDT to 1:45 a.m. the next morning. The filament lies in the lower left corner of the sun. The movie shows light at 304 Angstroms and 171 Angstroms, both of which help scientists observe the sun?s atmosphere, or corona. STEREO and SOHO were witness to the associated coronal mass ejection (CME) and their views are shown, as well.

Experts warn that detergent capsules are choking, poison threat to kids

They are the size of marshmallows and the colors of peppermint twists.

And because some small children think they might be treats, laundry detergent gel packs ? which recently hit the market ? are proving to be a potential home hazard.

Authorities in the United States and in the United Kingdom say there has been an uptick in phone calls and hospitalizations resulting from children who have swallowed or otherwise been exposed to the gel packs of highly concentrated laundry detergent, perhaps believing them to be candy.

It is easy to see why children would mistake them for either food or something to play with. U.S. poison hotlines have received 2,950 calls concerning exposures to children 5 and under so far this year. Why the detergent industry has even come out with these candy looking packs is another question. It seems to be about pushing the novelty of having your detergent in little packs rather than go through all the tremendous bother of just scooping out a portion for you load of laundry. They provide no real extra benefit in terms of cleaning.

Meanwhile, in devices like the Nintendo Wii, it?s an essential component of the innovative Wiimote controller that inspired the PlayStation Move and Xbox Kinect with its intuitive capturing of non-gamer attention.

The accelerometer goes mostly unnoticed in devices like smartphones and the iPad because it does its work without clicking or touching anything. have your device in wide? or landscape mode and it switches to that. Turn it to portrait mode ? which most mobile users see this site in and it switched to portrait mode automatically. In one demonstration of Windows 8 that I saw the device did not use an accelerometer. I don?t know if that is going to be the standard or not. If Microsoft expects to get its share of the computer pad/tablet market it better get 8 updated ASAP.

There is no magic bullet for preventing Alzheimer?s. Regular exercise ( even just walking a few minutes day) and a diet that includes fruits and vegetables may help. Some of the research on the benefits of fish oil supplements have been conflicting. It does not hurt to take one a day ? it does provide some other health benefits ? but no one should expect miracles.
