(Don't) Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em: Tobacco ... - New York Daily News
Break out the cigars ? or maybe not. Russell Sciandra, the longtime anti-tobacco lobbyist, is retiring.
Our Ken Lovett reports:
Sciandra, 65, has roamed the halls of the State Capitol the past 16 years for the American Cancer Society.
Before that he worked at the state Health Department running the anti-tobacco program before ?being asked to leave? by the Pataki administration after he produced a video that said the tobacco industry marketed to children.
He said a Health Department doctor told him the video demonizes the tobacco industry "without talking about the good things that they do.?
?
Friday is his last day.
?
?It?s been quite a ride, and I had a lot of fun,? Sciandra said.
?
Sciandra will be replaced by Blair Horner, best known for his time at the New York Public Interest Research Group.
Horner also worked briefly for then Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. He has been with American Cancer Society the past several years.
