A Purple Lion's Mission to Cure Cancer

August 9, 2013 Updated Aug 9, 2013 at 10:39 PM CDT

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Would a purple lion on the street make you do a double-take?

DaisyMae the lion, or poodle rather, is on the hunt to find a cure for Pancreatic Cancer.

Jane Nides, Daisy's owner, had a sister who was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in September of 2011.

Her sister passed away from the disease in October of 2012.

Since then, Nides and Daisy have been on a mission to raise money and awareness about this specific cancer type.

"There isn't anything I wouldn't do in memory and in honor of my sister. And my dog, which is now the purple lion, will stay purple until we find a cure for Pancreatic Cancer," said Nides.

Purple represents the color for Pancreatic Cancer, just as pink represents breast cancer.

With the purple pup, Nides says she is continuously stopped on the street, and with that she hands them DaisyMae's business card, giving people the opportunity to donate to a great cause.

Nides says that her sister was not only a sister, but she was her best friend.
