New Salto Hotel & Casino Adds To Uruguay Gaming Sector

The new Salto Hotel and Casino is a $20 million, 4-star hotel in the capital city of Salto, Uruguay.

From Montevideo to Rivera to Atl?ntida, 2012 has been the Year of the Casino in Uruguay considering the number of new projects announced, under construction or opening their doors.?Now add Salto to the list of Uruguay cities cutting the ribbon on a new casino.

Opening next Friday, the Salto Hotel & Casino is a 6-story, 57-room hotel in the heart of the capital city. El Pa?s says the Salto will feature modern guest rooms with WiFi and flat-screen TVs, a Vegas-style casino, restaurant, pool, gym and meeting facilities.

The investor group behind the new $20 million hotel is the same group of Argentines and Uruguayans who opened the Rivera Casino & Resort on the northern border with Brazil. While the Rivera caters more to casino-loving Brazilians, the Salto will market aggressively to gaming-minded Argentines across the border from Salto.

The investor group acquired the hotel from the Banco de Seguros del Estado last year. The 65-year old building was originally scheduled to open in May, but extensive renovations raising the hotel to 4-star status delayed the opening to this month. The new Sofitel Hotel Casino Carrasco is experiencing similar delays, although that opening is planned for November. (Full Story in Spanish)
