Christmas Guide: Top 5 Festive Food & Drink ? Lilinha Angel's World

I put together a selection of lovely food and drink that I have been trying and I will be enjoying during the festive season. My suggestions below have been tried, tested and loved!

In the morning, I will wake up to a cup of Douwe Egberts smooth caramel flavoured coffee.

Douwe Egberts launched The Flavour Collective, a new range of delicious flavoured instant coffee, premium coffee infused with a variety of tantalizing flavours.

Douwe Egberts The Flavour Collective is available in three flavours: Delicate Vanilla, Smooth Caramel and Roasted Hazelnut.

I should add I am more of a tea person, but I have been enjoying flavoured coffee instead.

Douwe Egberts The Flavour Collective comes in an elegant glass jar and there is a burst of beautiful smell once you open the jar.

The lovely flavours add a different twist, making flavoured coffee a great alterative to tea and hot drinks in general.

Smooth caramel is by far my favourite flavour as it has a sweet hint of caramel and it smells gorgeous.

I also like Roasted Hazelnut full-bodied nutty flavour and Delicate Vanilla rich and smooth flavour.

The Flavour Collective range from Douwe Egberts is available in Sainsbury?s and Tesco stores, RRP ?2.99 for 50g jar (25 servings).

For more information, visit Douwe Egberts website. You can follow Douwe Egberts on Twitter and Douwe Egberts on Facebook.

Mid-morning, I will be enjoying Sakata, light and crispy Japanese Rice Crackers.

Sakata rice crackers are oven baked, gluten free, low in saturated fat (less than 3% fat) and made with 100% natural flavours and colourings.

Sakata is available in four different flavours:

  • Original ? lightly seasoned with salt
  • Classic Cheddar ? full bodied authentic cheddar taste
  • Sizzling Barbecue ? tangy and sweet mouth-watering BBQ
  • Sour Cream & Chives ? smooth and creamy flavour

My favourite flavour is Sour Cream & Chives, it is light and very tasty.

I was surprised to find out that there are only 8 calories per cracker and just over 100 calories per serving.

Each serving consists of a row of crackers and they are 4 servings per pack. You could enjoy Sakata as a snack or also have it with dips.

Sakata crackers are available from Waitrose, Ocado, Sainsbury?s, Morrisons, Co-op and Amazon, RRP RRP ?1.99 per 100g pack.

For more information, visit Sakata website. You can follow Sakata Crackers on Twitter and Sakata crackers on Facebook.

After lunch, when we fancy a sweet treat, we will be enjoying Swizzels Matlow?s Squashies.

Squashies is a new sweet range that transformed favourite brands into a fun, squashy gum format. Squashies is a soft version of iconic sweets with no artificial colours.

Squashies is available in four flavours: Drumsticks, Refreshers, Love Hearts and Double Lollies.

We have been trying Squashies Love Hearts and they are soft and light. Not only that, Squashies Love Hearts are also delicious and fun.

Squashies Love Hearts is popular with the whole family, so I can?t wait to try the other flavours. Who doesn?t like sweets anyway?

Squashies Love Hearts is also colourful and bright. I tried to make a Christmas tree using the sweets!

I don?t even need to say that my Christmas tree didn?t live long ? it was quickly eaten!

Squashies is available from Asda, Sainsbury?s and Co-op, RRP ?1.49 for a 160g bag and RRP ?0.45 for 45g mini packet.

For more information and to download the new free Squashies World app, visit Squashies website.

Two new studies appearing in the Journals of Gerontology Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences show that vitamin D may be a vital component for the cognitive health of women as they age.

Higher vitamin D dietary intake is associated with a lower risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, according to research conducted by a team led by Cedric Annweiler, MD, PhD, at the Angers University Hospital in France.

Similarly, investigators led by Yelena Slinin, MD, MS, at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis found that low vitamin D levels among older women are associated with higher odds of global cognitive impairment and a higher risk of global cognitive decline.

Slinin's group based its analysis on 6,257 community-dwelling older women who had vitamin D levels measured during the Study of Osteopathic Fractures and whose cognitive function was tested by the Mini-Mental State Examination and/or Trail Making Test Part B.

Very low levels of vitamin D (less than 10 nanograms per milliliter of blood serum) among older women were associated with higher odds of global cognitive impairment at baseline, and low vitamin D levels (less than 20 nanograms per milliliter) among cognitively-impaired women were associated with a higher risk of incident global cognitive decline, as measured by performance on the Mini-Mental State Examination.

Annweieler's team's findings were based on data from 498 community-dwelling women who participated in the Toulouse cohort of the Epidemiology of Osteoporosis study.

Among this population, women who developed Alzheimer's disease had lower baseline vitamin D intakes (an average of 50.3 micrograms per week) than those who developed other dementias (an average of 63.6 micrograms per week) or no dementia at all (an average of 59.0 micrograms per week).

These reports follow an article published in the Journals of Gerontology Series A earlier this year that found that both men who don't get enough vitamin D either from diet, supplements, or sun exposure may be at increased risk of developing mobility limitations and disability.

Study Finds Most Pork Contaminated

Nov 27, 2012 6:24pm

A sample of raw pork products from supermarkets around the United States found that yersinia enterocolitica, a lesser-known food-borne pathogen, was present in 69 percent of the products tested, according to a study released today by Consumer Reports.

The ?bacteria ?infects more than 100,000 Americans a year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,?but ?for every case that is confirmed with a laboratory test, about 120 more cases escape diagnosis. Symptoms can include fever, cramps and bloody diarrhea.

For its sample, Consumer Reports included the same pork products millions of Americans buy every day at their supermarkets. The study included 148 pork chops and 50 ground pork samples from around the United States.

In the samples tested, 69 percent tested positive for yersinia and 11 percent for enterococcus, which can indicate fecal contamination?that can?lead to urinary-tract infections. Salmonella and listeria, the more well-known bacterium, registered at 4 percent and 3 percent, respectively.

?The results were concerning,???Urvashi Rangan, one of the authors of the report, told ABCNews.com. ?It?s hard to say that there was no problem.? It shows that there needs to be better hygiene at animal plants.?Yersinia wasn?t even being monitored for.?

In a written statement, the Pork Producer?s Council questioned the methods used by Consumer Reports, saying?the number of samples tested, 198, did ??not provide a nationally informative estimate of the true prevalence of the cited bacteria on meat.?

Despite the findings, Rangan said ?it?s good to know that the bacteria can be killed by cooking the pork properly and by being vigilant about cross-contamination.

Pork cuts should be cooked to 145 degrees, while ground pork needs to reach a temperature of 160 degrees to kill the bacteria.

?Anything that touches raw meat should go into the dishwasher before touching anything else,? Rangan said.??Juices from raw meat that touch the counter should be washed with hot soapy water.?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture ?said the findings ?affirm?that companies are meeting the established guidelines for protecting the public?s health.

?USDA will remain vigilant against emerging and evolving threats to the safety of America?s supply of meat, poultry and processed egg products, and we will continue to work with the industry to ensure companies are following food safety procedures in addition to looking for new ways to strengthen the protection of public health,? the department said in a statement.

ABC News? Dr. Anita Chu contributed reporting.?

Neighbor charged with murder, rape of 6-year-old

Benton County Sheriff's Office via AP

Zachary Holly was booked on charges capital murder, kidnapping and residential burglary in the Nov. 20 death of Jersey Bridgeman, 6, in Bentonville, Ark. on Monday.

By Kari Huus, NBC News

Zachary Holly, the?Arkansas man charged Wednesday with the rape and murder of 6-year-old Jersey Bridgeman, had been babysitting the little girl the night before her disappearance, as he had many times before, according to a court document released after?his first?hearing Wednesday.

Jersey's death came just months after a high-profile child abuse case in which her father and stepmother, David Bridgeman and Jana Bridgeman, convicted of chaining the girl to a dresser at night. Jana Bridgeman is serving a 12-year prison sentence, plus three years for a probation revocation. David Bridgeman is serving an 18-year prison sentence.

Jersey had since moved in with her mother, DesaRae Bridgeman,?and began kindergarten this fall in Bentonville, about 215 miles northwest of Little Rock. They lived next door to Zachary Holly, 28,?and his wife Amanda, friends of the family who frequently babysat Jersey and her 2-year-old sister, as they did on Nov. 19, according to interviews described in the affidavit of probable cause released Wednesday.

When DesaRae came home from work at about 11 that night, she went to get the girls, and after she chatted with the Hollys for a few minutes, Zachary carried Jersey to her home, while DesaRae carried the younger sister ? and they placed them in the same bed, the document says.

Jersey was reported missing the morning of Nov. 20. Minutes after a search for her began, Jersey's body was discovered in an abandoned house two doors away.

The probable cause document released to the public is heavily redacted, but it reveals that the crime lab in Bentonville worked through the Thanksgiving holiday to develop a DNA profile from sperm cells found on Jersey's body.

Holly called Bentonville police on Nov. 23, according to the affidavit, and later showed up at a station, gave a statement ? the details of which are entirely blacked out in the document ? and then was booked on charges of capital murder, kidnapping, rape and residential burglary.

In Wednesday's hearing at the First Circuit Court in Bentonville, Ark., he was denied bond, NBC affiliate KARK-TV reported.

Undated photo of Jersey Bridgeman.

One neighbor, Julie Pickard, told The Associated Press Tuesday that Holly wept the day Jersey's body was found.?

"He was crying for a long time," said Pickard.

The fact that Jersey was abused by parental figures and a neighbor is suspected in her death fits into an unfortunate pattern, according to Beverly?Engle executive director of the Children?s Advocacy Center of Benton County in Arkansas.

"Ninety-six percent of people who offend on children are people that the child knows. We all have been so trained in the stranger-danger aspect, which certainly does happen, but I think the reality is that?s about 4 percent," said?Engle, who interviewed Jersey last year when allegations of abuse against her father and stepmother surfaced.

"Jersey was a precious, adorable child and it is very grieving to know even in the moments before her death what she may have experienced, knowing this person or trusting this person,? Engle said.

'A little old soul': Girl found dead after dad, stepmom jailed

Holly is being held in Benton County Jail, and on Tuesday was attacked by another inmate, jail Capt. Chris Sparks told The AP Wednesday. He said Holly wasn't seriously injured, and that the other inmate, who was in jail on a parole violation, could face charges.

"Obviously this case has gotten a lot of exposure in the media and all the inmates know what he's in for ..." Sparks said. "We're going to do our best to try and keep him safe, just like we do every other inmate."

Holly was not required to speak at the hearing, and KARK reported that he remained silent as his lawyers, including public defender Jay Saxton, asked to review the decision to deny bond.

This article includes reporting by?NBC News' Elizabeth Chuck and The Associated Press.?

A simple AM radio can keep you abreast of events during a disaster. However, a smartphone is ideal for two-way communications, as well as for news and government messages via text message and social networks like Twitter. Fujitsu's Wandant dog pedometer tracks your pet's moves, uploads it to the cloud

There's a whole host of techy tools that will let you log your 10k personal best, and break down your splits into minute detail, but what about poor old Rover? Fujistu spotted this gap, and created Wandant -- a sensor-laden neck tag for dogs complete with cloud-based service for tracking your pooch's wellbeing. The hardware will log your pet's footsteps, amount of shivering plus temperature change, and upload it automatically via your smartphone or PC. The software will present you these data over time, with the option of manually inputting further details such as food amount, a diary with photos and -- for those with stronger constitutions -- stool condition. Like human-focused equivalents, there will also be provisions for sharing your dog's efforts, but thankfully only with vets and research institutions. There's no details on hardware pricing just yet, but the online component is free for the first year (JPY 420 / about $5 per month there after). Money no object for your mutt? Sadly only available in Japan for the time being, so you'll need to include a return ticket in that splurge too.

Why the fiscal cliff is like getting a huge paycheck cut

As rival lawmakers struggle to avoid the dreaded fiscal cliff in Washington, research shows that Americans will get a huge cut in their take-home pay if Congress can?t reach a deal on tax hikes and spending cuts.

In basic terms, the fiscal cliff is a set of dramatic tax increases and government program spending cuts that would decrease the annual deficit run up by the federal government.

It was put into a debt-negotiation process by lawmakers as a ?poison pill,? an alternative so politically toxic that it would force Democrats and Republicans to agree, or face an angry mob of voters.

But an agreement was never reached in 2011, and now, the stark tax increases and spending cuts become law on January 1, 2013, unless a bipartisan agreement can be reached or the problem is pushed back into the hands of a new Congress.

The math behind the fiscal cliff can be quite complicated, but to see why politicians are scrambling to find a solution now, you only need to look at how the cliff would suck money out of voters? paychecks, if the fiscal cliff goes unchecked.

As a rule, Americans don?t like taxes, and they don?t like dramatic tax actions. Look back at the original Tea Party in Boston as an example.

A study from the Tax Policy Center, a joint venture of the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution, shows that tax hikes triggered by the cliff will ?dock the pay? of 90 percent of Americans.

?Taxes would rise by more than $500 billion in 2013?an average of almost $3,500 per household?as almost every tax cut enacted since 2001 would expire. Middle-income households would see an average increase of almost $2,000,? the group said in an October 2012 report.

The telling factor in the Center?s report is that after-tax income will fall in every tax bracket, at an average of 6.2 percent.

In other words, instead of getting a 6 percent raise in 2013, you?d have your take-home pay docked 6 percent, before your employer even had a chance to give you a raise.

About 40 million Americans in the lowest fifth of the economy would see take-home income fall 3.7 percent. Taxpayers in the top fifth of the economy would see a 7.7 percent drop. Middle income tax payers would see take-home income fall by 4.4 percent.

Fiscal Cliff Changes in Take-Home Pay

Percent Dollars
Lowest quintile -3.7% $??????? 412
Second quintile -4.5% $??? 1,231
Middle quintile -4.4% $??? 1,984
Fourth quintile -5.1% $??? 3,540
Top quintile -7.7% $? 14,173

Average -6.2% $??? 3,446

The tax changes hit Americans from all angles. The biggest hit is from the expiration of the Bush-era tax cuts, but there are also Obama-era tax cuts and credits that expire.

There will be tax penalties for married couples and for families with children. And the dreaded Alternative Minimum Tax is in the mix, which would increase taxes for 22 million people.

So income taxes would go up, payroll taxes would go up, and estate taxes and dividend taxes would go up.

And there is a new tax to pay for the Affordable Care Act.

If there is a silver lining, the federal government would bring in an extra $536 billion in 2013 to use for deficit reduction. About 54 percent of that money would come from ending the Bush-era tax cuts and from new payroll taxes.

The health-care tax would take up about 5 percent of the overall tax hikes.

To get a different look at how the tax changes would affect your family, the Tax Foundation has an online calculator that lets you put in your income and deductions and see your actual tax hike under different scenarios.

Recent Constitution Daily Stories

More states ponder legal marijuana as feds loom
The Klan?s indirect role in fostering the Jazz Age
Constitution Check: Can a judge send a criminal to church instead of prison?

The Foundation has its critics, which say it is a conservative-leaning group.

But when we added data from the calculator on a married couple, with two children, making $60,000 annually, the tax-home pay number was similar to the information from the Tax Policy Center.

In most middle-income scenarios, the Foundation calculator shows take-home income falling by about 5 percent.

Its calculator also lets you pick different scenarios for dependents and dropping the Alternative Minimum Tax.

For now, President Obama and House leader John Boehner aren?t speaking, and the Democrats and Republicans are presenting the tax and spending plans to Americans, in advance of a big congressional showdown in December.

Obama is committed to extending tax cuts for the middle class and hiking taxes on wealthier citizens. The GOP is committed to deep spending cuts in ?entitlement? programs as part of any fiscal cliff bargain, which would include sparse tax hikes.

The most anxious watchers are Wall Street and its partners in the global economy, which are very much aware of Congressional Budget Office projections of a 2013 recession if the fiscal cliff goes into effect.

Highlights from the Fed's US economic survey

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A Federal Reserve survey released Wednesday found the economy grew at a steady pace from October through early November in most parts of the country, helped by a pickup in consumer spending and home sales.

The Fed said growth improved in nine of the Fed's 12 regional banking districts. The other three ? Philadelphia, New York and Boston ? were affected by Superstorm Sandy.

The report, known as the Beige Book, is based on anecdotal information from the regional districts.

Here are some highlights:

BOSTON (includes Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and part of Connecticut):

The economy expanded more slowly. Retailers cited mixed sales and manufacturers noted slower growth.

NEW YORK (includes New York and parts of Connecticut and New Jersey):

Economic activity weakened since the last report, largely reflecting widespread disruptions caused by Superstorm Sandy. Retailers reported fairly strong sales in October but said the storm severely hampered activity since then.

PHILADELPHIA (includes Delaware and parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey):

The economy grew modestly until the end of October, when Sandy slowed business activity and cut power for millions.

CLEVELAND (includes Ohio, Kentucky and parts of Pennsylvania and West Virginia):

Manufacturing orders and production both increased, helping the economy grow modestly. Housing and non-residential construction activity improved with particular strength in apartment building. Retailers reported higher sales.

RICHMOND (includes Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, District of Columbia and part of West Virginia):

Economic activity strengthened. Manufacturing improved and retail sales increased moderately. Mortgage refinancing bolstered consumer lending and home sales rose.

ATLANTA (includes Georgia, Alabama, Florida and parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee):

Economic activity increased. Retail sales grew mildly. Auto dealers reported stronger sales. Tourism remained robust. But manufacturing activity softened.

CHICAGO (includes Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan and parts of Illinois and Indiana):

Economic activity continued to expand slowly. Businesses expressed concerns about pending tax increases and government spending cuts that could take effect in January if lawmakers and the Obama administration don't strike a budget deal before then.

ST. LOUIS (Includes Missouri, Arkansas and Kentucky, and parts of Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee and Mississippi):

The economy expanded at a moderate pace. Retail and auto sales increased over year-earlier levels. Home sales continued to improve while commercial real estate conditions remain mixed.

MINNEAPOLIS (includes Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin and Michigan):

The economy grew moderately, helped by improvement in consumer spending, tourism and professional services. Construction and home sales are increasing at double-digit rates in some areas.

KANSAS CITY (includes Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and parts of Missouri and New Mexico):

Retail sales strengthened and businesses were optimistic that the trend could continue through the holidays. Commercial and residential construction improved, while home prices were expected to rise because of sales gains.

DALLAS (includes Texas and parts of New Mexico and Louisiana):

A Fresh Way to Make Money Online : Internet Businesses

You are here: Home / General / A Fresh Way to Make Money Online

A Fresh Way to Make Money OnlineYou see, I left home with dreams of becoming an actor, and I moved to Hollywood on a wing and a prayer?

? Because once I started having success in Hollywood, I quickly realized that even the top actors and actresses have it tough when it comes to their wallets.

And I found a better way. I left behind a promising career as an actor, when I stumbled across a secret that made me $90,000 in one day, at just 21 years of age.

And I?ve decided to give away my top secret formula, in a simple ABC format, that anyone, including a grandmother from Texas, can follow with ease?

? But first I want to give you a bit of my background, because it?s important for you to understand that I came from one of the roughest neighborhoods in a crime-ridden Alabama town?

? And I was able to turn it all around? so I KNOW that no matter what you?re faced with financially, there is a way out.

My early childhood was spent on a farm in a very small town called Roy, about 100 miles outside of Seattle, Washington. We had a mule, a horse, 2 donkeys, a miniature bull (only 32 inches tall), a llama, a goat, geese, peacocks, pigs, and chickens. I made money as a child by selling eggs to the local town folk.

At 13, my parents got divorced, and I was subsequently shipped to another middle-of-nowhere town called, Mobile, Alabama. (after my mother was finally released from a mental facility where I would visit her in a straight jacket?no joke)

I saw shows like Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous, or MTV Cribs, and I wanted all of those things.

Then one night I came home and found my stepdad very drunk & angry, stumbling around yelling. This was an often occurrence, as alcohol was his only escape from Crohn?s Disease.

However, this time was different. He was an ex-cop, and this time he had his 9 millimeter Beretta in his hand, and he put it to the back of my head. I thought I was a goner.

I ran as fast as I could to my room, slammed the door and locked it. I called 911 as he banged on my door. Seconds later I heard a shot. I slowly crept out of my room to find my mother crying on the floor and my stepdad laying there lifeless. He had taken his own life. I remember it like it was yesterday.

After that, I was angry at the world. I hung out with the wrong crowd, and went to Juvenile Hall 7 times.

I had no idea where I wanted to go or what I wanted to do? I just wanted a REASON to leave. And just about any reason would suffice?

I?m 20 years old. I?m sitting at my dump of a house in Alabama, watching Dawson?s Creek, and I had a huge crush on Katie Holmes. I?

Egypt's Morsi compromises amid soaring tensions over decree

After encountering a wave of protests in response to a decree from Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi that would have raised his edicts above judicial review, Morsi moved quickly to contain the damage. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

By Jim Maceda, NBC News

CAIRO ??Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi and top Egyptian judges on Monday moved to defuse a crisis in the country, with both side backing down from a battle over Morsi?s sweeping self-appointed powers.

Coming out of emergency meetings in Cairo, Morsi issued a statement in which he agreed that only his decisions related to "sovereign" matters would be protected from judicial review, his spokesman said, indicating he had accepted a compromise proposed by the judiciary members.

On Thursday Morsi alarmed Egyptians and international observers when he decreed sweeping powers for himself that effectively would automatically make all of his rulings lawful and immune to judicial review.

The seeming power grab prompted tens of thousands of Egyptians to take to the streets to protest, some clashing with police, for the past four nights.

Morsi?s four-point statement issued Monday says that only "sovereign decisions" ? for instance, those related to declaring war and dealing with existential threats ? would fall under the decree. Even those powers would only apply until there is a new constitution and fresh parliamentary elections, expected in two months.

The statement went on to express respect for the "immunity and independence" of the judiciary. It also qualified his earlier call for a retrial of former regime officials ? including dictator Hosni Mubarak, who was ousted in February 2011 after three decades in power. Such retrials would occur only if new evidence emerged, the statement said.

Morsi was propelled to power by the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist group that had long struggled against the Mubarak regime.

The judges did not release their own statement but the presidential spokesman said that they had approved the compromise.

Shortly after a presidential spokesman read the statement on Egyptian TV, the Muslim Brotherhood ? the parent organization of Morsi?s Freedom & Justice Party ? issued its own statement, calling off its planned 'millionya' ? or 'million man march' ? "until further notice." Their rally, in support of Morsi, had been slated for Tuesday.

Mohamed Beltagui, a top Muslim Botherhood official, who appeared on the broadcast, explained that the organization was making the change to avoid any potential violence, and in hopes of opening up a 'channel of dialogue' with Morsi?s opponents.?

President Mohammed Morsi, center, meeting with top Egyptian judges in Cairo on Monday in an effort to defuse a crisis over Morsi's self-proclaimed powers, announced on Thursday.

Both the Muslim Brotherhood and Morsi's opposition had called for mass demonstrations on Tuesday, raising fears that heightened emotions could lead to clashes in the streets.

Despite these developments, opposition leaders said they would continue their protest until Morsi completely rescinded his 'dictatorial' decree.

Meanwhile, the several hundred protesters camped in Cairo?s Tahrir Square ? the site of the 2011 uprising ? say they intend to continue their 'sit-in.'

Some declared that Morsi is irrelevant.

"It?s over," said one protester who runs a medical clinic for injured protesters off the square. "The second revolution has already begun."

Another said Morsi needs to tear up his decree and resign.

(AP Photo/Louis Lanzano)

(AP) ? A former hedge fund portfolio manager charged in one of the biggest insider trading cases in history was due in a New York federal court after an investigation that touched on the activities of one of the nation's wealthiest financiers.

Mathew Martoma's court date Monday was expected to be largely procedural, though there could be some discussion of the $5 million bail set for him last week in Florida. He was arrested at his home in Boca Raton, Fla., but the case is based in New York.

While working for CR Intrinsic Investors LLC between 2006 and 2008, Martoma exploited an acquaintance with a medical school professor to get confidential, advance results from tests of an Alzheimer's disease drug, Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara's office said.

Then Martoma used the information to make more than $276 million for his fund and others, prosecutors said. First he led other investment advisers to buy shares in the drug companies, and then he and the others ditched their investments before the public found out about the drug trial's disappointing results, allowing them all to make big profits and avoid huge losses, according to prosecutors.

Defense lawyer Charles Stillman said Martoma simply worked hard and vigorously pursued public information.

Stamford, Conn.-based CR Intrinsic Investors is an affiliate of SAC Capital Advisors, a firm owned by Steven A. Cohen. Cohen's net worth is estimated at $8.8 billion on the Forbes 400 list of the richest people in the U.S.

Court papers in Martoma's case repeatedly allude, without using Cohen's name, to his dealings with Martoma in the lead-up to an announcement about the drug trial.

The FBI subpoenaed SAC and other influential hedge funds in November 2010. Martoma is the fourth person associated with SAC Capital to be arrested on insider trading charges in the last four years.

Cohen has not been charged with any crime. SAC spokesman Jonathan Gasthalter has said the company and Cohen are cooperating with the inquiry and "are confident that they have acted appropriately."

Crime Analysis & Investigation Computers & Technology | PJL ...

By Peter John Lynch
(PJL) of Lynch Investigations &
Countermeasures Pty. Ltd.

It should be recognised that in the past there has been much more of a
reactive approach to investigating offences committed in relation to
technology.

Cybercrime is now upon us and it needs to be controlled and reduced.
The investigator needs to adopt technology & apply it to the investigative
problems to assist in limiting the opportunities for those who commit
offences.

The investigator still needs to be able to respond to offences committed in a
reactive manner, but with greater application of a proactive approach from
adopting technology and applying it to their investigations will reduce the
time spent reacting to offences committed & unsolved problems stemming
from previous attendances of investigations by a reactive approach. More?
